Jade Schuckman graduated from the Purdue University School of Pharmacy in May 1997. Today, he is a licensed Indiana pharmacist. After graduation, Schuckman spent one year as pharmacy manager for the Wal-Mart in Washington, Indiana. He then decided to steer his career in a more clinical direction. He took a position at Northside Pharmacy in Vincennes, Indiana, with a focus on disease state management and more direct patient care.
Between 1998 and 2002, Schuckman lost his mother to breast cancer and his father to brain cancer. Both parents passed away before the age of 60. It was during this time that he became frustrated with the treatment approach of traditional medicine. He watched both parents lose their battle with cancer while losing most of their quality of life during the course of treatment. Schuckman and his sister, Beth, who is also a pharmacist, decided to look into ways of reducing their chances of developing chronic, life-threatening disease. During this search for information, Schuckman was introduced to the field of holistic health care.
“I was amazed at the amount of scientific-based information there was on the use of pharmacy compounding, nutritional supplements, and healthy living habits to improve the lives of patients living with chronic disease and information on how to make healthy choices to prevent chronic disease. It was at this time I decided to develop a pharmacy practice environment where I could bridge the gap between traditional medical care and a more natural, holistic approach.”
In September 2003, Schuckman purchased the Medicine Plus Pharmacy located in Bedford, Indiana. Since purchasing the pharmacy, he has maintained his vision. Medicine Plus is a combination pharmacy that provides traditional retail prescriptions, compounding services and pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements. However, Schuckman's Medicine Plus provides another service more valuable than any other. “We are an information center. Our pharmacy provides valuable information to help improve our clients' health. We help them live healthier and feel better. Our information may be as simple as taking a nutritional supplement to replace valuable nutrients depleted by a prescription medication. Or the information may be as complicated as an hour long appointment counseling the patient on how hormones such as progesterone, insulin, thyroid and cortisol may be contributing to their symptoms and increasing their risk of chronic disease. We work with the patient and the physician in order to provide the physician with additional options they may need to improve their patient’s quality of life.”
Schuckman currently lives in the Bedford area with his wife, Brenna. Brenna is also a pharmacist and both attend several seminars each year devoted to increasing their knowledge in the areas of holistic medicine. While he enjoys his pharmacy practice, these days he finds nothing more enjoyable then spending time with his wife and other close family members.
